MORE ENGLISH VISITORS
ANOTHER CANYON MYTH

Let's take a look at some of the other "DROP-IN"  musicians who had heard lurid tales of debauchery and the bacchanalian nights in Laurel Canyon at this rock club sized Log Cabin, home to their mentor, John Mayall, his roommate, ultra freak, guitar virtuoso, Frank Zappa, and a bevy of young free-loving females. Laurel Canyon Log Cabin Stories became the hottest topic in London Rock Clubs & Pubs, embellished with each retelling. The first English groups usually were introduced in Los Angeles at The Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip, just a couple miles from Laurel Canyon. They were easily lured by the wiles of the "Laurel Canyon Ballet Company" girls, and the drugs of the males. Remember that together with these seminal British groups, the Log Cabin "Freaks & Dancing Girls"  also played very important roles in the new LA Rock Music Scene. In addition to contributing "the sex & drugs".  Carl Franzoni and the Paluekas opened their communal home (the LC Log Cabin) to the visiting musicians in the same spirit which attracted John Mayall.                    LET THE PARTY CONTINUE !

FRANK ZAPPA'S NOTORIOUS LOG CABIN IN LAUREL CANYON

Once Frank Zappa moved in, the B.Y.O.B parties were halted, but by then the Log Cabin was known for its parties, and 'guests' were dropping in daily & nightly. One 'guest' from London, blues legend, John Mayall, got comfortable and the Log Cabin guest list soon included a 'Who's Who' of the Hottest Musicians from The new British music scene.

JOHN MAYALL is recognized as the 'Godfather of British Blues', As such, almost every British musician of the era was proud to be considered his friend.

It's important to remember that many of the struggling young blues enthusiasts of the London bar scene, achieved Rock Stardom in the US, beginning on the Sunset Strip.
Not only was The Laurel Canyon Log Cabin home to outrageous parties, it was also home to John Mayall & Frank Zappa, two highly respected Rock&Roll musicians.

MICK JAGGER & MARIANNE FAITHFULL

During the time when Mick Jagger was a frequent visitor to The Log Cabin, he was usually accompanied by his beautiful girlfriend at the time, Marianne Faithfull. Most fans don't realize that Marianne was coaxed into a singing career by Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham. Marianne had a big hit in both Britain and the U.S. with her debut single, the Jagger/Richards composition "As Tears Go By" (which prefaced the Stones' own version by a full year). Considerably more successful in her native land than the States, she had a series of hits in the mid-'60s that failed to chart in the US.

Marianne owed more of her fame as a '60s icon to her extraordinary beauty and her long-running romance with Mick Jagger. Marianne was a hard-core party girl, who had no trouble keeping up with her notorious boyfriend. In fact, she offered a taste of things to come with her compelling 1969 single "Sister Morphine," which she co-wrote with Mick. The Stones would later release their own haunting version of the song on their Sticky Fingers album.
She and Mick broke up in the early '70s, and her music career stalled due to her drug abuse.
By the end of the decade, she cleaned up her act and was fortunate enough to be able to return to an even more successful singing career.

GAIL ZAPPA:  Alice Cooper's 'Log Cabin Mick Jagger Story'

Alice Cooper recalls a Mick Jagger visit, when the famed Rolling Stone showed up inebriated, with his girlfriend, Marianne Faithfull, and the straight-edged Zappa kicked them both out of the house.

I was sitting there, just a kid hanging out to record,”
“And I went, ‘Frank Zappa just threw Mick Jagger out of his house—because he’s drunk.’ To me, that's so far in another universe that I couldn't even believe it.”

  Alice Cooper

WHAT DO YOU THINK? - MYTH OR REALITY?

This is a Great Story that has circulated in Rock Circles for 40 years. It's obviously a good story; after all, it not only involves three of the biggest stars in Rock&Roll, it includes 3 of the most outrageous personalities in the business.
Each of these "off-the-wall" music legends is the central character in scores of their own Bizarre {Zappa's Label's Name} rock tales.
Music Fans, 'in the know', recognize that, despite all indications from Zappa's music & zany life-style, Frank did not Drink, nor do Drugs. OK, Now the story certainly could be true...,
But Frank was known for his open hospitality, and obviously was very tolerant on the matter.
 - I mean look at his band, his crew, all his friends, and especially, his roommates.
PLUS - Mick Jagger & Alice Cooper
have each consumed more of each licit & illicit substance than the entire populations of their respective hometowns [or ANY two towns, if it really matters].
